Message from Daniel Thomas, Chair
2015 Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee

On January 1, 2015 I invite you to watch the broadcast of the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee’s 36th entry in the 126th annual Tournament of Roses Parade. But I invite you to do more than just watch the parade - I invite you to participate.

Rotary International President Elect Gary CK Huang’s theme is “Light Up Rotary.” The Tournament of Roses Parade’s theme is “Inspiring Stories.” One of Rotary’s most inspiring stories, and one of Rotary’s areas of focus, is the work we do around the world to bring clean water and sanitation to millions of those who lack these vital resources. More than 2.5 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation facilities. It is reported that at least 3,000 children die each day from diarrheal diseases caused by unsafe water.

With this in mind the name of our 2015 float entry is “Changing Lives Through Clean Water.” Many Rotary clubs participate in water projects around the world and we want to share that message with the live audience at the Rose Parade on January 1 and the millions of television and web viewers. The viewing audience for the Tournament of Roses, Rose Parade is an estimated 500,000 in pre- and post-parade viewing, 700,000 on the Parade route, 40 million television viewers in the United States and millions more in over 200 countries worldwide. What a great way to share Rotary’s life-saving message with the world and inform more people about all of the great work we do.

How can you participate in this public relations project for Rotary International? It's easy! We need financial help most of all however we invite you to enjoy our website, share it with others and to consider having one of your club’s programs highlight the Float. We can help with your program if you wish. We also invite you to help us decorate the Float. Our decoration schedule and sign up will be posted on September 15, 2014. If you cannot make the 8 hour commitment, come join us after Christmas at the float decorating site and we will do our best to provide you with a private tour of the decorating site. Last we invite you to watch the Rose Parade and to tell others about the Rose Parade and about our participation with our beautiful entry promoting Rotary International.

If you want to discuss ways you, your Rotary Club, or our district can help in this important public relations activity, please start the conversation with an email to me. I look forward to having you proudly join me as we work together and share Rotary’s message of clean water and sanitation on January 1, 2015 at the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Yours In Rotary
