Dear Governor:

Congratulations! You have started on one of the most memorable years of your Rotary life.

One of the items not always covered during your governor training is the Rotary Rose Parade Float, an entry in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1st  in Pasadena, California, every year since 1979. The Rotary Float is one of the largest public relations projects for the Rotary Clubs around the world,  because it is seen by over 400 million people worldwide.

Rotary President Bill Boyd enthusiastically supports the Rotary Rose Parade Float,  but Rotary International provides no financial support for this public project, so our committee requests support from both Rotary Clubs and individual Rotarians beginning in July of each year.  The float usually costs $130,000 to $140,000.  All of the labor of the committee and decoration of the float is 100% donated by Rotarian volunteers, including spouses and families and members of Interact and Rotoract.

You can help our 2006-2007 efforts by creating awareness of the major Rotary public relations effort by urging your District’s clubs to respond to our request to contribute just $3.00 per member to support the 2007 Rotary Rose Parade Float.  Perhaps, as many Districts have done, you might wish to appoint a District Public Relations Chair to promote support of this very worthwhile Rotary project.

Enclosed is a brochure describing the 2007 Rotary Rose Parade Float.  The brochure includes a description of our 2007 float along with a message from President Bill Boyd endorsing the project.  A short nine minute DVD is also included.  All of the Club Presidents in the USA, Canada and Bermuda have been sent a copy of this DVD.  I also encourage you to take a moment to visit our web site at www.rotaryfloat.org

Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Rotary Rose Parade Float.  Please let me know if your District might collect contributions from all clubs in you District for one District contribution, a method that significantly reduces our fund raising expenses. 

With your support, 2006-2007 will be one of the most successful public relations efforts in the history of Rotary.
