Return to 2001 Float Construction Photographs Page Theme: "Recognizing Tomorrow's Leaders" Size: 24' High 18' Wide and 35' Long Float Description: This year Rotary celebrates " The Fabric of America" by depicting two adventurers, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. The two characters are on a raft floating down the river looking for a new adventure. Tom's dog is waiting with anticipation on the dock on the back of the float. The float will depict a lush marshy riverbed scene augmenting the characters. Flowering: We have created 3 sections to the deck of this float so we are able to create a beautiful floral depiction of a lush marshy riverbed. We have created large sculpted lily pads, cat tails, and lilies. The 3 sections of the float are the bottom or river bed, the top of the river and the raft and dock area. Dock weed will be used to create the cattails, carnation and gladiola petals to create the large lilies, and lemon leaf to create the lily pads. 10's of thousands of roses, carnations, and iris will be used in the lower river bed deck area. White sweet rice will create the foam and water rings at waters edge. Crushed walnut shell and manaluka bark will give the logs of the raft their natural look. Statice, sweet rice, strawflower, and cranberry seed will be used on the clothing of Tom and Huck. Animation: Two of the large sculpted butterflies will move their wings. Design and Construction: The float was designed by renowned designer Raul Rodriguez and built by Charisma Floats.
